This two-week edition of the Grails Diary could be named the release edition, with new Minor release of Grails, Major of Gradle, Minor of Ratpack and a new library: GrooCSS.

The Grails team have released Grails 3.2 released, which also includes GORM 6, the biggest GORM release ever! Grame blogged a summary of new items, highlighted by RxGORM, AngularJS 1.0 scaffolding, JSON Views 1.1 plugin and other improvements to profiles.

Ratpack 1.4.0 is now available, with many new Promise methods, upgraded dependencies, batch methods for convenient processing batches of promises, and connection pool support for Ratpack's HTTP client. The documentation has also seen a number of improvements.

Gradle is out in version 3. The release notes explains all the changes, but a few of the most note worthy are:

  • The Gradle deamon is now enabled by default, and is should be more stable.
  • Support for the latest Java 9 EAP builds, tests can be run with some limitations.
  • No longer support for JAVA 5 or 6
  • Parallel task execution improvements
  • Faster Dependency Resolution
The Gradle 3.0 announcement has the short version.

Guillaume Laforge has taken a look at the download numbers for Groovy, and as of end of July, Groovy has already been downloaded 12M times (from Maven Central and Bintray) which is almost as much as the 12.7M times in the entire year of 2015

Adam Davis has created a new library for preprocessing CSS. "Like Less but without inventing a new language. The missing piece for full-stack Groovy." You can find the full documentation at groocss.org, and it is available for download from Bintray

Ken Kousen's book "Gradle Recipes for Android" is available for free download from the Gradle website.
